    Lecture 1 - Basic Commands


    I. Basic Commands


    pwd: Show user's current place.
    cd: Change directory.
    ls: List files.
    mkdir: Create a directory.
    cp: Copy files or directory.
    rm: Remove files or directory.
    mv: Rename/Move files or directory.

    II. Wild Cards


    *: Stands for any characters.
    ?: Stands for 1 characters.
    [...]: In set of ...
    [!..]: NOT in set of ...
    [[:class:]]: Classes of character
  • alnum: Alphabetic character and Decimal digits
  • alpha: Alphabetic character
  • digit: 0 - 9
  • lower: Lower case letters
  • upper: Upper case letters

    III. Notes


    --help: Put this option after each command will show help panel. We can also use "man" command in before each command to know other options.
    In order to
  • Move to PREVIOUS directory we use: cd ..
  • Move to HOME directory we use: cd ~
  • Move to ROOT directory we use: cd /
